Annotation

Purpose: to analyze the indicators of water distribution for irrigation and irrigated areas.

Materials and methods: the information received from 13 branches of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Department of Land Reclamation and Agricultural Water Supply in Rostov Region" containing water use plans and data on irrigated areas for the period from 2021 to 2024 was analyzed. 

Results. When analyzing the information obtained as a result of comparing the indicators, the total irrigated area was 55.66 thousand hectares. Although compared to 2023 it increased by 2.5 thousand hectares, over the past three years the irrigated area has decreased by 6.9 thousand hectares. At the same time, the total volume of water consumption for all branches amounted to 898.0 million cubic meters, which is 237.5 million cubic meters more than in 2021. At the same time, the most significant volumes of water consumption were in Proletarsky branch - 446.4 million cubic meters. The largest irrigated land areas were noted on the territory of Proletarsky (12 thousand hectares) and Semikarakorsky (11.8 thousand hectares) branches, and the strongest reduction in irrigated areas was in Martynovsky – 5.8 thousand hectares (minus 4.2 thousand hectares). The strongest decrease in water supply volumes – by 48.1 million cubic meters - was also revealed here, and the total volume of water for irrigation was 16.8 million cubic meters. 

Conclusions. According to the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the irrigated areas continue to decrease, and the volume of water consumption, on the contrary, increases. Despite the growing volumes of harvest, the water supply networks of most farms in the region are worn out, which leads to huge water losses. To introduce new irrigated areas, even greater volumes of water supply are required, which is simply impossible to implement without huge capital investments in the reconstruction of reclamation infrastructure and in the management processes of both individual reclamation systems and the entire reclamation industry as a whole.
