Purpose: to assess the prospects for using the Fundukly River runoff for irrigation in the Republic of Crimea based on the analysis of water resource quality and the volume of generated runoff.

Materials and methods. The study was conducted in two stages. The first included water sampling and analysis of its availability for irrigation based on soil-reclamation classification, the second – an assessment of the volume of generated runoff, performed according to the empirical formulas, and determining the possible irrigation area on its basis.

Results. None of the collected water samples showed excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants. At the same time, a number of indicators showed an increase in their content from the source to the mouth. For example, the mineralization of the river runoff after the inflow of the main tributaries of the Fundukly River (T.1) was 354 mg/dm3, and after the watercourse passed through the territory of the urban-type settlement of Zuya (T.2) it was 444 mg/dm3. As with mineralization, an increase in the content of hydrocarbonates, chlorides and sulfates in the water is noted. According to the approach proposed by Z. V. Timchenko, the average long-term value of the runoff module in the outlet section of the Fundukly River will be approximately 2.8 l/(s sq. km), and the average long-term runoff – 4.1 million cubic meters.

Conclusions. At the time of the survey, the waters of the Fundukly River and its tributaries, including those accumulated in ponds, were classified as quality classes I and II. Their use for irrigation should not negatively affect the development of agricultural crops and the condition of the soil. Rational use of the river runoff of the Fundukly River will allow about 50 hectares of agricultural land for the permanent additional irrigation.
