CURRENT STATUS AND MAIN TASKS FOR UPDATING REGULATORY PROVISIONS IN THE FIELD OF DESIGNING DRAINAGE ON IRRIGATED LANDS
- The role of land reclamation and water management in ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture
Purpose: analysis of domestic experience in coastal protection measures on irrigation canals. To ensure food supplies, since the 1960s all developed countries have been actively developing the agro-industrial complex, expanding the area of agricultural land and developing reclamation systems. Basically, the available areas of agricultural land are already being used. However, in the near future the population will double, so solutions to increase the volume of production on the same areas by increasing the level of reclamation are needed.
Discussion. In practice, in the author's opinion, it is necessary to amend the regulations for the mandatory use of various geosynthetic coatings on reclamation systems. By increasing the participation of state support in the current maintenance of reclamation systems, the withdrawal of worn-out structures from circulation until the moment of reconstruction will be excluded, thereby accelerating the growth rate of the entire agro-industrial complex.
Conclusions. The main methods of bank strengthening of reclamation canals for new construction, as well as some developments used in repairing canal failures in the earthen channel are considered. For high-quality maintenance of reclamation systems in working condition, it is necessary to develop and approve standard methods of repairing hydraulic structures and flowcharts of repair works on the scale of each region. The material composition in a specific region should be available according to the developed standard methods of repairing. Due to the availability of an evidence base for the practical use of geosynthetic materials, it is necessary to centralize the production of blanks and supply them to operating organizations (geotextile bags, mats, membranes, gratings) for prompt use and elimination of emergency situations.
