CURRENT STATUS AND MAIN TASKS FOR UPDATING REGULATORY PROVISIONS IN THE FIELD OF DESIGNING DRAINAGE ON IRRIGATED LANDS
- The role of land reclamation and water management in ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture
Purpose: to assess the suitability of collector-drainage water (CDW) for irrigation, its impact on the soil-reclamation state of the rice irrigation system.
Materials and methods. The object of the study is collector-drainage water from the outlet collector of the rice irrigation system, as well as CDW diluted with water from the irrigation canal in a ratio of 1:1000, respectively. Soil-reclamation assessment of water suitability for irrigation was carried out by the following indicators: total mineralization, irrigation properties according to the Staebler coefficient, salinization hazard rate, potential salinity index, SAR value, risk of magnesium and sodium alkalinization.
Results and discussion. The mineralization of CDW was 3146 mg/dm³, which characterizes them as completely unsuitable for irrigation. The ecological and reclamation assessment showed that the processes of salinization, sodium alkalinization, and accumulation of toxic salts began to develop in the soil when irrigated with such water. Dilution of CDW with irrigation water in a ratio of 1:1000 will lead to a decrease in mineralization by 4.15 times. The Staebler coefficient increases by 3.5 times, which indicates an improvement in water quality. However, even with a thousand-fold dilution of the studied collector-drainage water with fresh irrigation water, it is impossible to state its suitability for irrigation unambiguously. The assessment of diluted water by the indicator “salinization hazard rate” indicates its limited suitability for irrigation, and by the indicator “potential hazard index” – complete unsuitability.
Conclusions. The conducted soil and reclamation assessment showed the unsuitability of collector-drainage water from the outlet canal of the rice irrigation system for reuse for irrigation. With a thousand-fold mixing of the studied CDW with fresh irrigation water, a sufficient dilution effect is not achieved, which indicates the need to develop and implement a technology for their purification.
