CURRENT STATUS AND MAIN TASKS FOR UPDATING REGULATORY PROVISIONS IN THE FIELD OF DESIGNING DRAINAGE ON IRRIGATED LANDS
- The role of land reclamation and water management in ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture
Purpose: the design of a water intake structure on the Kiya River in the Tambov region, which is aimed at protecting it from siltation by suspended and dragged sediments is discussed.
Materials and methods. The current state of the facility was analyzed, identifying the main problems associated with canal siltation and sediment intrusion into the water intake chamber. Increased sediment transportation, typical of rivers with a hydrological regime of mixed snow and rainfall, was determined. A set of measures on water intake unit reconstruction, including optimization of the main canal route and the installation of sediment transport shields is proposed.
Results. The sediment distribution depending on the turning angle of the diversion canal (φ = 120°) and the location of single trajectories of surface (bп = 5.26 m) and bottom streams (bд = 19.0 m) was determined by design scheme. The need for reconstruction of the facility using sediment-transporting shields was substantiated. These shields are designed to influence actively the flow structure, redistribute velocities across the river's cross-section, and create circulation currents that facilitate the transit of sediment and prevent their sedimentation before the water intake. The shield parameters were calculated: shield length (l = 3.50 m), distance between shields (d = 3.0 m), distance between rows of shields (C = 2.20 m), and distance from the shore (S = 1.9 m).
Conclusions. Sediment distribution depending on the turning angle of the diversion canal and the installation of sediment-transporting shields for the water intake unit on the Kiya River near the village of Zyryanovo, along with the use of modern calculation methods, will significantly improve reliability of water supply, reduce operating costs, and ensure the required quality of the withdrawn water.
