Purpose: to analyze the operational condition of the Samur-Derbent land reclamation system in 2025.

Materials and methods. The information base of the study is based on the results of a comprehensive diagnostics of land reclamation infrastructure facilities. Scientific research was carried out in accordance with the “Methodology for a comprehensive survey of the technical condition of state land reclamation systems in order to determine the procedure for their repair, restoration and reconstruction”. Data processing was based on the methods of multifaceted analysis, comparison and synthesis.

Results. The system covers 10.85 thousand hectares with irrigation and consists of one main, six inter-farm and seven distribution canals. The total length of the system's canals is 167.67 km. The survey revealed that periodic rockfalls cause damage and breakthroughs on the slopes of the Samur-Derbent main canal. These damages lead to losses of transported water resources. Furthermore, rocks entering the canal cause localized changes in the canal geometry. As a result of scientific research, the canals were ranked by significance category and the proposed priority for repair and restoration work on the Samur-Derbent Reclamation System was determined.

Conclusions. The Samur-Derbent Main Canal is of primary importance and is a priority in planning repair and restoration work, as confirmed by calculations based on the Methodology. To ensure thr accelerated water supply throughout the system, additional work is necessary to upgrade the operational condition of all canals to a “workable” level. This, in turn, will lead to an increase of irrigated areas, increased agricultural production, increased utilization of processing facilities, etc., i. e., to a multiplier effect in the agricultural sector.
